Terrell Burgess, S, Utah
Post Combine
Draft quick hits (3/4):
— Lance Zierlein (@LanceZierlein) April 18, 2020
I mentioned a couple of days ago that Memphis RB Antonio Gibson had a majority of praise across the team sources I speak with. At defensive back, Utah's Terrell Burgess is very similar. He's listed as a safety, but is fluid enough to play nickel.
Utah's Terrell Burgess is a savvy, high-effort slot/safety prospect with great instincts, man coverage skills and versatility.

He takes calculated risks and recovers quickly, can explode in a straight line. He should come off the board early on Day 2.pic.twitter.com/PGzX3JTimV
Aside from short-area reactive quicks to mirror/match routes, two things NFL slots must possess are good route feel and ball skills. @Utah_Football DB Terrell Burgess showed both things at @seniorbowl. Burgess could start for many teams as a rookie. #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE pic.twitter.com/oIc5o5ifCg

He's REALLY hard to shake in man coverage. Idk how this was his first year starting. Smooth feet and crazy closing burst to defend catch point. pic.twitter.com/6rPiCYvjfa

In man, his feet are quiet and quick. Never opens early, processes extremely fast. As Crock always says, don't create space for WR. Man-beater rub here, Burgess doesn't give an inch, lets the vert go by and still makes the play. Closing burst and processing is nuts. pic.twitter.com/TaAvwICGTW

This play blew my mind. DMed it to @eric_crocker right away. Looks like C2, he takes #1 vertical, CB (Jaylon Johnson) doesn't sink enough on the chair route. Burgess looks back in phase, finds the ball, comes off his guy and picks it off. Incredible play. pic.twitter.com/TzGhyToeAZ

But then he will have plays like this that make me worry about playing him in the box. pic.twitter.com/ycuBEREfhG

Need a nickel defender? Maybe a 3rd safety to come cover a slot/flex-TE. Defend alley. Run support. Blitzer.

Senior Bowl
Utah safety Terrell Burgess continues his strong showing at the Senior Bowl. Burgess' strength is at recognizing routes, working hard to gain body position. He has outstanding ball awareness to locate and react accordingly. An absolute instinctive playmaker. pic.twitter.com/we6eQH9l00

Safety thoughts from Day 1:
— Dalton Miller (@DaltonBMiller) January 25, 2020
Alohi Gilman really had a good practice.
Jalen Elliott good vs TEs.
Jeremy Chinn is a missile but he doesn't seem comfortable as a free.
Burgess had ups and downs. Struggled @ top of routes vs strength.
Michigan duo was present.
#Utah DB Terrell Burgess has low key had a productive week. Really natural in a nickel role.

I gave him a late 3rd round grade based off his 2019 tape and he’s lived up to that this week. #SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/UfbrvFPxUu
Utah safety Terrell Burgess has been fantastic this week. Opens up his hips, finds the tight end and times the ball perfectly to pick it off.
— Gavino Borquez (@GavinoBorquez) January 23, 2020
I absolutely loved his tape. He's going to finish as a top-5 safety for me. pic.twitter.com/7076NbuQKZ
Just smacked a big grade on Utah S Terrell Burgess
— Chris Trapasso (@ChrisTrapasso) January 23, 2020
Modern-day S with the athleticism to man up against slot WRs, high-end instincts to stay a step ahead against the run. Love his game.
Utah safety Terrell Burgess being able to press and cover slot receivers could make him a dynamic chess piece for an NFL defense pic.twitter.com/AemxnRCe8m
