Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
Post Combine
Since there has been a lot of talk about my comments re: Isaiah Simmons on the @RossTuckerNFL podcast, I am retweeting my evaluation of Simmons. I know my Matchup colleague @MattBowen41 shares much of what I say here. This is all based on film study. pic.twitter.com/D37yBzkpsK

Clemson used him as an overhang to keep him out of the box and keep him running in space. Great, that’s what safety’s are for. And when he’s in the box, they’re playing that flex defense where they occupy all gaps and have Simmons scrape over the top.

Jacob Phillips is a LB prospect in the 2020 draft class out of Louisiana State.

He posted a great #RAS with okay size, good speed, elite explosiveness, poor agility at the LB position.https://t.co/BjRKnunRI4 pic.twitter.com/1G0vWxxtVb

Talked last week about #Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons — Has the traits to play Safety & Dime LB in the NFL.

Let’s run through some film examples (thread).
Think Cover 3 here — rolled down to the TE side. Force player vs. the run. Watch him close on the QB... @NFLMatchup pic.twitter.com/Yfz5UlMYbd

It's not hyperbole to say Clemson's Isaiah Simmons can do it all. His home is probably as an apex/overhang player, but he can move all around the defense and mold to any scheme. Simmons instantly redefines his team's defense. https://t.co/1JtQYM4bN3 pic.twitter.com/uALKUFETdv

I tried to answer the question plaguing NFL analysts following the National Championship: "Where do you play Isaiah Simmons?"
— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) January 15, 2020
The answer isn't really about Simmons. It's about NFL defensive coordinators, and the boundaries of the archetype.https://t.co/jYTkCvEUxi
