Here are who the winners will be at the award show at the end of the season.
Coach of the Year:
Mike Zimmer Minnesota Vikings
- This one was a tough one with a few definitive choices here who can win between Bill Belichick, Doug Pederson, Sean McVay, and Sean Payton. However, I am leaning towards the coach who basically ran away with the NFC North with his third string quarterback. Also, he is the mastermind of one of the top defenses in the NFL where he presides over mainly. Overall, this is close race in my opinion, but Zimmer is the most deserving in my opinion. Case Keenum also owes him a great deal of gratitude basically recreating his career giving him an opportunity to get a starting opportunity somewhere if not back with Minnesota.
Runner Up: Doug Marrone Jacksonville Jaguars
Comeback Player of the Year:
Keenan Allen WR Los Angeles Chargers
- This award is a tad to ambiguous to me. Is this an award to someone who missed the year prior or to a player who finally played well. I would prefer it be the latter where a player who missed a year and comes back playing well is more impressive to me. In that case, not many players who missed a year has had one better than Keenan Allen who along with Phillip Rivers has helped his team make a push for the playoffs. Other than him I am not sure who else deserves this award who missed a full year. Maybe Rob Gronkowski, Justin Houston, or someone who did perform badly the year prior and is now playing great. If that last part is the case then Blake Bortles is definitely in the running for this award.
Runner Up: Rob Gronkowski TE Patriots
Offensive Line of the Year:
Philadelphia Eagles
- The Eagles line has been a key cog to their success this season. They are one of the most athletic offensive line units in the league creating a lot of running lanes through stunts, kick outs, and traps. All this is even without their top left tackle Jason Peters where Hal Vatai a former late round pick last year has performed very well in his stead. Overall, this offensive line has been one of the most consistent bunch of blockers all season in a league where offensive lines are usually the reason why teams fall flat on their faces.
Runner Up: Los Angeles Rams
Offensive Rookie of the Year:
Alvin Kamara RB New Orleans Saints
- The offensive rookie of the year award is now down to two running backs for all intents and purposes. Do they go with the back who exploded at the beginning of the season and mellowed out in Kareem Hunt or do they go with Alvin Kamara who has been on a tear down the stretch this season. I think voters tend to go with what they see at the end of the year so Kamara is the winner here. Also, him going down against the Falcons in the loss demonstrates how important he already is to this offense. If not for getting injured however, Deshaun Watson would have run away with this award.
Runner Up: Kareem Hunt RB Kansas City Chiefs
Defensive Rookie of the Year:
Marshon Lattimore CB New Orleans Saints
- What an impressive draft class by the Saints if their rookies win both awards. Lattimore should be the front line favorite to win this award with his consistent ability to cover all the top receivers he has faced this season. If not for being hobbled in his match up against Julio Jones he would have had an even more impressive season. The only rookies here that can challenge him are fellow rookie corner Tre'Davious White, T.J. Watt, or maybe Jarrad Davis if they value tackles. I think it will be a race mostly between the two corners on who wins this award.
Runner Up: Tre'Davious White CB LSU
Offensive Player of the Year:
Antonio Brown WR Pittsburgh Steelers
- What a shame, if AB could have stayed healthy for the majority of the last three games of the year he would have had a shot to break the 2,000 yard barrier. It is hard to argue that there is any more impactful offensive player on any team outside of a quarterback. Maybe now with him out a guy like Todd Gurley, Deandre Hopkins, or possibly one of the top quarterbacks in the league. I tend to shy away from quarterbacks for this award since they are normally the ones to win the MVP award and I feel like picking a same player for both categories is a tad bit of an easy route to go.
Runner Up: Todd Gurley RB Los Angeles Rams
Defensive Player of the Year:
Jalen Ramsey CB Jacksonville Jaguars
- This is an award where you can put a bunch of names in a hat and any one you picked could be a worthy candidate. From A.J. Bouye, Calais Campbell, Darius Slay, Aaron Donald, Demarcus Lawrence, or Everson Griffen are all worthy candidates. I am picking Ramsey here by how great he has become in such a short of time as a 2nd year pro. No player in my opinion has had such an incredible jump from year one to year two and unlike the other candidates he has spent the least amount of time in the league. In that short of time he has become one of the most feared defenders and is one of the key players in the Jags success this season.
Runner Up: Calais Campbell DE Jacksonville Jaguars
Most Valuable Player of the Year:
Tom Brady QB New England Patriots
- It will be a tough pill for Goodell and the league to hand Brady this award, but he is by far and away the most important player for NFL's best team this year. Take him off the team they would be just as bad as the Browns with their limited talent outside of Brady. Not only is he putting up one of his best seasons of his career, but he is doing it at the incredible age of 40. It also helps that his competition Carson Wentz went down with an injury, but even Wentz has had more talent to help him. Brady has put a team with a bad line, limited weapons, and a hobbled defense on his back all season long.
