The first big surprise happens with the first pick. QB has been long debated, but if any player can instantly impact a team the way that a QB would it would be Chubb. Pairing Chubb with last years first overall pick Myles Garrett would give the Browns a better version of Von Miller and Demarcus Ware, and would give them a tremendous defensive foundation for the next decade.
This Mock assumes that the Giants sign QB Case Keenum.
Buffalo packages their two first round picks to swap spots with Indianapolis and first year coach Frank Reich, who was hoping to land Bradley Chubb.
Cleveland lands the guy it wanted all along. Darnold has been running a pro style offense since he became a starter, where he has earned accolades from PFF for his proficiency running RPOs which are a staple of Hue Jacksons offense.
This Mock assumes that the Broncos sign QB Kirk Cousins.
James over Fitzpatrick will give some of you fits I am sure, but hear me out. Fitzpatrick is way too small to play outside corner in the NFL. He is purely a safety, and thus his positional value drops. James is expected to test better than Fitzpatrick at the combine, and should overtake him in draft rankings thru his performance.
Chicago is expected to lose Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller to free agency. Amos and Eddie Jackson are above average starters at safety or Bears would consider Fitzpatrick.
This ends Fitzpatricks fall, and continues the streak of 49ers picking best player available.
John Gruden gets his Derrick Brooks. Raiders will likely select between Edmunds, Vita Vea, and Roquan Smith. I think Edmunds is a better fit at off ball LB in todays NFL.
Dolphins are expected to release Ndamukong Suh this offseason.
Bengals never successfully replaced Andrew Whitworth. The trio of Andre Smith, Jake Fisher, and Cedric Ogbuehi are all massive busts.
A space eater to free up Jonathan Allen and provide rush lanes for the linebackers in Washington. Vea improves the defense at all 3 levels.
Davon House should not be a starting or depth cornerback on an NFL roster.
Ravens failed to replace Steve Smith last offseason. Maclin was a huge flop. This pick is contingent on the Ravens trading for Jarvis Landry.
Walter Football reports that the Chargers will almost certainly pick defense in the first round. Safety is the biggest need but with no option available worth this pick, Chargers grab the best player available at a position of need.
Orlando Brown is a dog who would fit in perfectly with the Seahawks.
Dez Bryant looks to be on the outs in Dallas. Either way, Terrance Williams desperately needs to be upgraded. Cowboys looks to surround Dak with weapons in hopes that he plays more like Rookie year Dak than Sophmore year Dak.
Lions DC Paul Pasqualoni held the position of BC DL coach up until this year. Think it is a coincidence? Lions desperately need edge help and Landry has it in spades. This pick could also be Marcus Davenport, as the Lions hired Bo Davis from UTSA to be their defensive line coach this season.
Colts get their discount version of Bradley Chubb.
Continuing the theme, McDaniels knows he can coordinate an offense to a super bowl victory. He saw, however, his defensive line get eaten up by the weak offensive lines in the AFC. McDaniels will not make that mistake again, as he forms a defense against a division now with Leonard Fournette.
Rams get a Michael Brockers replacement and Aaron Donald clone.
Panthers are expected to resign Julius Peppers, but he wont be around for much longer. Panthers are desperately thin at defensive end and are considering releasing starter Charles Johnson.
Kevin Dodd is officially a bust. One of the worst misses in recent memory. Brian Orakpo has been quite bad as well. Titans desperately need to improve their pass rush.
Falcons have a weak spot at right guard, and are expected to release their left guard Adam Levitre who is due over 10 million this season.
One of my favorite prospects in the draft gets added to one of the most exciting defenses in football. LVE has drawn comparisons by Lance Zierlein to Brian Urlacher. LVE would immediately replace the below average Manti Teo at middle linebacker.
Steelers grab their QB of the future, with Big Ben looking like he will not be around much longer.
Jaguars are expected to lose Marquise Lee to free agency, and he could be upgraded anyways.
Vikings double up on Ohio State IOL in back to back years. Price can slide into the center spot, pushing last years pick Pat Elflien to OG.
Jason Peters is likely to retire after this year.
Patriots are expected to lose Rex Burkhead and Dion Lewis to free agency. Both could stand to be upgraded anyways. This pick could be flipped to D line easily if the Patriots resign either of those backs or reacquire Legarrette Blount who is a free agent.
