Listen, nobody expects Chase Young to be available at three. But crazier things have happened. The Redskins could look to invest in an OL to protect Dwayne Haskins. Or, some other team could trade up to #2 to select their quarterback of the future. Another scenario is that a team trades with the Lions for the 3rd overall pick, considering the Lions pick just before the QB-Hungry Dolphins.
4.) Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
With the top two picks in the draft already set in stone with the Bengals and Giants taking Burrow and Young respectively, the draft really begins at 3. The Lions could look to add Wirfs to their roster. Wirfs is OT1 in a top heavy OL class. He is athletic and fundamentally sound with no real weakness in pass protection or run blocking. The Lions need at OT stems from both Taylor Decker and aging Veteran Ricky Wagner both entering contract years.
3.) Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson
It is no secret that Jarrad Davis has been a massive dissapointment since he was drafted in the first round 2 years ago. I tend to give players 3 years to achieve their potential, but with the Lions championship window closing they may turn to add Simmons, an uber athletic modern prototype at linebacker. Simmons can be the primary coverage LB while Davis stuffs the run and Tavai Rushes the passer.
2.) Derrick Brown, DL, Auburn
We\'ve all seen how dominant Aaron Donald made the Rams defense, but that did not happen in year one. The Bills got a steal in Ed Oliver last year, however his success didn\'t translate to the field. DT\'s surprisingly have a steep learning curve to impact the NFL. Brown is one of the top players in the class, however, and would immediately improve Detroits anemic interior pass rush, which is arguably their biggest need.
1.) Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
Bleacher Report\'s Matt Miller says that Jeffrey Okudah has the highest grade hes given a CB prospect since Patrick Peterson and Jalen Ramsey. PFF rates him as the best in the class and the pairing of Okudah with Darius Slay might be too much for the Lions brass to pass on. Okudah excels specifically in Man Coverage - a statistic that Detroit nearly led the league in. Okudah could offer the chance to push our defense into the top of the top with Slay, Okudah, and Justin Coleman at the nickel.
