Some will say I am holding onto the past and that I cannot get over the failure of RG3 while others will just call me a hater but Washington Redskin fans need to open up their eye and smell the cow manure that Kirk Cousins is about to be this year. Kirk Cousins is a top 15-20 QB at best in the NFL and the 2016 season will expose him for what he truly is.
I bet some are asking where my evidence is and I only have pure speculation and I am glad you are wondering. Kirk Cousins started all 16 games last year. Of those 16 games he threw only 1 Touchdown score in 11 games. In those 11 games, he also threw 11 interceptions. The games he threw for more than 1 touchdown came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bulls, Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. After a good game, I admit against the Bills at home, even though I am still convinced that the Bills didn’t even get off the bus; The Eagles and Cowboys game were meaningless to the Skins opponent as they were playing against teams that have already given up on their seasons. So to show for, of those five “Great” games Cousins had at excelling at the quarterback position, two of them were only meaningful games that came during the important part of the season. Those teams being the Bucs and The Saints. A team that gave up an average of 26 points a game and a team who had a historically bad defense. (I mean really, it broke records). To keep in mind, if it wasn’t for Brashaud Breeland and him not saving a long TD run (like really long) by Doug Martin to put the game away before halftime, Kirk Cousins and Jay Gruden might not even be employed by the Redskins organization right now.
Of the 8 loses Kirk suffered, He was nonexistent in six of them. Miami, Giants, Jets, Patriots, Carolina and Packers. The other two, Falcons and Dallas, we just complete shit shows. Him throwing a pick six in Overtime to a “falling down Receiver” even though he telegraphed it on the inside shoulder, and Dallas loss to where I am not sure what I watched in regards of the DeSean Jackson punt return. The Redskins had the 21st strength of schedule, (23rd Home, 19th Away). Kirk Cousins “Leading” the Redskins to a 9-7 win season which could have been easily a 6-10 season, thanks to the Bears secondary and Matt Jones being somehow in the right place at the right time, The Eagles terrible defense that let up a game winning drive that had plenty of mistakes and Tampa Bay giving up a 24-0 lead, should have been 31-0 (Thanks Brashaud) and losing 31-30 on another last second drive. Also can’t forget about interception happy Eli as well throwing a pick in the red zone to a converted rookie WR to CB Quinton Dunbar which saved the game.
To the fans that think we are going to have a double digit win season, please step back and reevaluate your life. Cousins’ “Fire Power” only gained a rookie in Josh Doctson this offseason and still has Injury Prone DeSean Jaskson and Jordan Reed at the helm who are good to miss at least a few games a year. Matt Jones is our starting running back after parting ways with Alfred Morris this offseason and he hasn’t proven anything besides he can catch screen passes and he can fumble the ball really well. Behind him we have an injury prone Chris Thompson and uhhh Mack Brown? Our Offensive like should improve with returning Shawn Lauvao and Kory Litch, but they’re still not guarantee stud starters and are more likely to get hurt than not. Now we did make improvements on the Defensive side of the ball with signing Josh Norman (stud) and getting Junior Galette back from injury (hopeful stud) but when Kedric Golston is your starting 3-4 NT and Will Compton at your Mike, apposing offensives are going to have a field day running the ball. Thank the lord for Chris Baker or we would be dead in the water. Stephen Paea had a lack luster 2015 outing until he was shown the IR and our safteies are Deangelo Hall who hasn’t gotten any younger and David Bruton?? A special teamer from Denver, oh boy.
Too think, Yeah if we had this roster playing the 2015 schedule, I could see a legit 9 or 10 win season again but not so fast. Winning your division means you play a first place schedule. Say hello to the Steelers, Lions, Bengals, Vikings, Packers, Cardinals, Panthers and Bears! (Left off Browns and Ravens because they are easy wins) That is seven tough games that the Redskins have to play and that’s not saying the Cowboys and Giants are going to be gimmie games either. (Depending on Romo and Dez health). I’m Sorry but eight of the defenses we have to go against were all in the top 15 of the league last year. Not the bottom 13 of the league where we played eight games against. Statistically, Cousins is a much better passer when he has a clean pocket, time to make his reads, and the ability to get the ball to his receiver when not worrying about which defensive player is going to be on top of him. Frankly almost all quarterbacks are better in those regards but, I am saying, the talent and level of defenses Cousins will face in the 2016 season all mimic the teams he faced last year and was nowhere to be found during those four quarters. (Panthers, Jets, Patriots, Packers).
Cousins has shown us yes he is above average quarterback against below average teams but when it comes time to beat a top 15 team in the league, he cannot do it and that is why he has never beaten a winning record team in all of his 26 games started. (26 GAMES!!) For those people saying he deserves a 100+ mil, 40-50 mil guaranteed contract, and will see “Andrew Luck” money next offseason because we franchise tagged him, I say shame on you for being so blind with ignorance and hype from the Washington DC media and everywhere else basically. Scot McCloughan knows what he is worth, so do I and that is why he will not be a Redskin in the 2017 season. And oh, don’t come at me with the whole “He broke 5 franchise records last year” because I expect my starting quarterback to throw a touchdown in every game, throw for 4000 yards in a season (Pretty sure it has been done well over 100 times), throw over 300 yards in more than half your started games (He threw 7), Have over 325 completions in one season (Doesn’t even get him in the top 50 ever) and to occasionally throw 3 TD’s in the first quarter. Like come on, its 2016. Quarterbacks throw the ball 40 times a game. Sorry the Redskins haven’t has a quarterback to break records in 25 years…and still looking.
