Sports Guy of the Week
Mike Tirico. How bad has Sean McDonough been on Monday Night football? For those who don’t know, McDonough is the other white guy that joined Jon Gruden in the booth this season. McDonough’s interactions with Gruden have been painfully awkward and the play by play commentating has taken a severe step back. Tricio was the lifeblood of Monday Night Football, with his thoughtful insights and humorous set-ups, Mike Tirico created a great product on television which allowed Gruden to become the superstar that people think he is. However, he seems to be floundering each week along with his new cohost, which makes the broadcast almost unlistenable.
55 of the WeekJunior Seau. I just watched concussion finally and it reveals some pretty amazing facts regarding athletes suffering severe brain damage from football induced sub-concussive hits and CTE. Seau was the first case that the public forced the NFL to investigate a link to his death and concussions. Seau suffered, but when he died and donated his body to science for the study of brain damage, he provided a foundation for answering questions that many retired and active professional athletes are thinking.
Mortal Lock of the WeekHouston Texans (+6.5) @ Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings without Teddy Bridgewater, Adrian Peterson, and starting LT Matt Kalil are still #good. Who would’ve thought they are undefeated with their roster looking like this? Their defense is reminiscent of last year’s Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos. All that being said, they are due for a let down having a short week after a big prime-time divisional win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. The Houston Texans actually matchup well with the Vikings. Houston has a great defensive front 7 that should shut down Minnesota’s surprisingly effective running attack, and they are the #1 ranked defense against the tight end which will limit star Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph. I don’t think either team will put up a lot of points this week, and i foresee a defensive battle. Prediction: Texans: 21 Vikings: 17
TV Show/Movie of the WeekCurb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David, producer of Seinfeld, stars in his own version of the show. While it didn’t get the national acclaim that Seinfeld got, I would argue that Curb Your Enthusiasm is superior. The HBO series is laugh out loud funny. It’s Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Good.
5.5 Things I Learned This Week1. After losing to the worst team in the league, the Detroit Lions are officially the new worst team in the league.
2. These vice presidential candidates are more like Dick Cheney than Joe Biden.
3. Joel Embiid is #good
4. Don’t eat the Taquitos form 7-11. Trust me on this one.
5. Apparently, South Park isn’t on this week. That sucks. It also won’t be on after episode 6 and on Thanksgiving, in case you were wondering.
5.5 I wish South Park would go back to the old format. I enjoy the stand-alone episodes more than the continuos storyline.
Twitter post of the weekOne of these is Mike Pence and the other is a coach I just created in NCAA 14, but I can't remember which is which. pic.twitter.com/QMyYRVP1ZN
